Eric has been in the entertainment industry for over ten years. His career began in music as a music manager. As a manager, Eric pioneered using social media and video to generate new fans and engagement. Eric used his savvy computer technology and marketing skills to shoot his first client up to the #1 spot on the Myspace Music Charts, garnering over 1 million plays for this artist.
Based on the online success that Eric created for his first client, Eric formed his own Consulting Firm at age 17 and while still in high school. The Consulting Firm focused on helping minority business owners start online fashion, and entertainment companies/brands. At the time, e-commerce was new territory but Eric saw this as the best way for these companies to compete at a high level without high level financing. Eric counseled these companies from inception and still represents many of these, now successful brands, in a general counsel role. Eric used his diverse understanding and expertise in multiple disciplines including technology, music, business, law, and cultural diversity to successfully acquire client's trust and friendship.
After high school, Eric attended Arizona State University as a marketing major on a full academic scholarship. During college Eric tutored student athletes by describing difficult concepts in a manner where the students could easily understand. This tutoring helped Eric develop skills that he uses in contract drafting, client consultations, and litigation to this day. Although Eric was running a successful consulting firm, and serving as business manager to a professional NFL player, Eric was still able to attend school full-time, graduate early, and with cum laude honors.
After undergrad, Eric, looking to complete the formal educational component of his master plan, attended Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. While at Loyola, Eric served as the President of the Black Law Students Association and concentrated on business, entertainment, and fashion law. Eric was an inaugural member and graduate of the only Fashion Law Clinic on the West Coast.
During law school, Eric worked at BET Networks in the business and legal affairs department, helping senior attorneys review and draft writer, talent, producer, and director agreements. Eric also assisted fulfilling guild reporting requirements while at BET.
Eric also clerked at Kimball, Tirey and St. John, LLP while at Loyola. Eric was a member of the Business and Real Estate Litigation Group, assisting senior attorneys with legal research, memo drafting, discovery requests, and motion drafting. After graduation, Eric was hired on at Kimball, Tirey and St. John, where he worked until the Spring of 2015 before opening O'Connor & Hurt, PC.
Eric serves on several boards and committees. He is the co-founder and current President of the Arizona Fashion Association, which is Arizona’s professional trade association for retail, fashion, and apparel. Eric is also a committee member of the Entertainment Law Division of the John M. Langston Bar Association in Los Angeles.
